Notes from calls
Free. Barside asks before it adds the template, then makes a new note from it. Needs Barside 1.50 or newer.
Nothing opened? Barside may not be installed yet. Download Barside, then choose Open in Barside again.
If your clients fit in a spreadsheet, you do not need CRM software. This template keeps the pipeline in a table you can sort, filter and chart, next to the notes from each call.
Who it is for
It is for freelancers, consultants, small agencies and local businesses with a few dozen clients and leads. When the list grows to thousands of contacts with automated emails, a full CRM may fit better; until then, a table is faster. A job application tracker uses the same idea for a job search.
What is in the simple crm template
- Pipeline: a table with Stage (lead, contacted, proposal, won, lost), Value in dollars, Next step and Follow up, with a total of all values.
- Deal value by stage: a bar chart of where the money is.
- This week: the follow-ups to do.
- Notes from calls: anything worth remembering.
An example
Maya, a consultant, adds four people. A proposal of $4,800 for Northwind waits for a revised quote; she sets the follow-up for Thursday. A new lead from a conference goes in as Lead with "First email" as the next step. The total shows $14,500 in the pipeline, and the chart shows most of it at the proposal stage, so this week she focuses on closing rather than finding new leads.
How to use the simple crm template
- Choose Open in Barside above. Barside opens and asks before it adds anything.
- Pick the workspace for the note, and leave Keep it in my templates ticked to use the template again.
- Choose Create note. A new note called "Clients and leads" opens, ready to fill in.
- Next time, start one from New note from a template, or let Barside make it on a schedule as a repeating note.
No Barside yet? It is free for Windows, Linux and Mac: download Barside, then choose Open in Barside again.
How to never miss a follow-up
- Every open deal gets a next step and a follow-up date.
- Sort by Follow up each Monday and plan the week from the top.
- Add a reminder for follow-ups that matter most.
- Mark lost deals as Lost, not deleted: they teach you something.
Make it yours
- Change the currency format of Value to euro if you work in euros.
- Add a Source column to see where clients come from.
- Link each client to their own note with [[ for call notes.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Is my client list private?
Yes. The table lives in your library on your computer. Nothing is uploaded unless you turn on Barside Plus: its cloud backup is encrypted on your computer first, and its cloud sync keeps a copy on Barside servers so your computers can share it.
Is the simple crm template free?
Yes. The template and Barside are both free. Barside Plus is optional and adds cloud backup and sync between computers; templates do not need it.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Barside runs on your computer without an account, and the notes you make from the template stay in your library on your computer.
Can I change the simple crm template?
Yes. Edit the note it makes like any other note: rename columns, add rows, delete sections. To keep your version, open the note and choose Save as template in its options.
