The rules. Short and plain.

How you may use Barside, and how buying and selling access to paid Spaces works: prices, renewals, cancelling, payments and fees.

Using Barside.

Barside is free to download. Most features work on your computer. Spaces, meetings and share links work online and need a Spaces sign-in.

You own what you create. You give us only the permission we need to store your content and show it to the people you share it with.

Follow the law. Do not share illegal content, harass people, send spam, or try to get into accounts or systems that are not yours. We can remove content or close accounts that break these rules. Where we can, we tell you first and explain why.

Keep your sign-in safe, and keep backups of notes that are important to you.

Paid Spaces: for members.

A Space owner (the creator) can charge for access to their Space. You buy that access from the creator. You pay by card on Stripe’s own pages, and the money goes to the creator’s Stripe account. Barside never sees or stores your card number.

Prices are in Canadian or US dollars. Your bank may convert them. Barside’s 8% platform fee is part of the price; it does not add to what you pay.

What you get

One-time price: access for as long as the Space stays open, unless the owner removes you. Monthly or yearly price: access for each period you pay. It renews automatically until you stop it.

Access starts when Stripe confirms your payment. Stripe emails a receipt for each payment. In Barside, Spaces → Memberships & billing → Billing & receipts opens your receipts and card details.

If the owner changes the price, your current subscription keeps the price you signed up at.

Cancelling a subscription.

Choose Stop renewal in Spaces → Memberships & billing at any time. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Nothing more is charged.

Leaving a Space also stops future billing. You keep the time you already paid for.

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe tries again. Update your card in Billing & receipts. Your access lasts until the end of the period you already paid for.

If the owner removes you or archives the Space, your subscription stops and you are not charged again.

No refunds.

All payments are final. We do not give refunds, including for unused time on a subscription. To stop paying, stop renewal before the next period starts (see Cancelling).

A Space owner may choose to refund a payment from their own Stripe account. That is their decision. A full refund ends your access for that payment; a partial refund keeps it.

Please contact the owner or support@barside.space before you dispute a payment with your bank. A dispute ends your access for that payment.

Nothing on this page takes away rights you have under the consumer laws where you live.

Paid Spaces: for creators.

You sell through your own Stripe account

You connect your own Stripe account through Stripe Connect, and you accept Stripe’s terms (the Stripe Services Agreement and the Stripe Connected Account Agreement). Stripe decides whether it can serve you. You are the seller: members buy access to your Space from you. Barside provides the software.

Creator accounts are available in the countries Stripe serves, except Brazil for now. Members can pay from anywhere Stripe accepts cards.

Prices

A Space can be free, or have a one-time, monthly or yearly price from 1 to 10,000 CAD or USD. A new price applies to new members only. Members who joined while the Space was free keep free access. Making a Space free stops its subscriptions; members keep their access. Card payments only; no coupons or free trials.

Fees

Barside keeps 8% of each payment, including every renewal, or 5% while you have Barside Plus (see Barside Plus). Stripe takes it as a platform fee when the payment is made. Stripe charges its own processing fees to your Stripe account.

If you refund a payment, or a member disputes it, Barside keeps its fee. Stripe does not return its processing fee.

We tell you at least 30 days before we change the fee. A new fee applies to new purchases only.

Payouts, refunds and support

Stripe pays you on the schedule in your Stripe account. Barside never holds your money. Payments are final under these terms. If you choose to refund a payment anyway, do it in your Stripe Dashboard. Answer your members’ questions within a reasonable time.

Taxes

You are responsible for the taxes on your sales and your income where they apply, for example GST/HST, QST or US sales tax. Barside does not calculate or collect tax on your sales at this time. You can turn on Stripe Tax in your Stripe account. Tell us your correct business country, and keep it up to date in Stripe.

Where the law requires it, Barside may add tax to its fee, or collect tax on some sales in its own name. We will tell you at least 30 days before that starts.

Your Space

Your Space must follow the law, these terms and Stripe’s list of restricted and prohibited businesses. Describe honestly what members get, and do not sell what you cannot deliver. We may pause purchases, stop subscriptions or remove a paid Space for fraud, legal requests, many disputes, or breaks of these terms. Where we can, we tell you first and explain why.

Stopping

You can make your Space free or disconnect Stripe at any time. We can end paid Spaces for your account with 30 days’ notice, or at once for fraud, legal reasons or serious breaks of these terms.

Barside Plus.

Barside Plus is an optional subscription. Barside stays free without it.

Price and tax

Barside Plus costs US$20 a month or US$200 a year. Prices do not include sales tax. At checkout, Stripe adds the tax that applies where you live, and your receipt shows it. Barside is registered for GST/HST in Canada (715985628 RT0001).

What you get

Plus includes the features listed in Settings → Barside Plus when you subscribe: a lower fee on your paid Spaces (Barside keeps 5% instead of 8%), bigger share links that can stay until you remove them, encrypted cloud backup with up to 90 days of history (when your 50 GB is full, the oldest days are deleted first to make room), cloud sync between your computers (up to 50 GB), cloud agents that run your scheduled agents on Barside’s server with your own AI key (the AI company bills you for what they use), and a cloud address where the AI apps you allow reach your synced notes. Features marked “Coming soon” are not part of your subscription until they are released. We may improve or change features. If we remove a main feature, we tell you at least 30 days before.

Renewal and cancelling

Your subscription renews automatically every month or every year, on the card you gave, until you cancel. Cancel at any time in Settings → Barside Plus → Manage or cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Plus keeps working until the end of the period you paid for.

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe tries again, and Plus keeps working for up to 3 days after the paid period. If the payment still fails, Plus ends.

No refunds

Plus payments are final. We do not give refunds, including for unused time, except where the law requires it.

Price changes

We tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your next renewal. You can cancel before then.

When Plus ends

No new cloud backups are made, and cloud sync, cloud agents and your cloud addresses stop; your AI key is deleted from Barside’s servers 30 days later. You can still restore your backups and download your synced notes for 30 days; then they are deleted from Barside’s servers. The notes on your computers stay. Share links set to never expire end 30 days later. The fee on your paid Spaces goes back to 8%, including renewals.

Creator program.

Approved creators earn a share of the Barside Plus payments of the people they bring. Barside stays free, and nobody has to buy Plus.

Joining

Join in Settings → Creators with a code. You need a Barside account with a Spaces profile. We can pause or end a creator’s place in the program at any time. To get paid, you connect a Stripe account in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland. Stripe’s own terms apply to that account.

Who you bring

A person counts for you when they buy Barside Plus within 90 days after opening your link, in the same browser, or after typing your code in Settings → Barside Plus. Each person counts for one creator: the first one. Before their first Plus payment, they can type another creator’s code. After it, their creator stays the same. People who paid for Plus before, your own account, and payments with your own card do not count.

Your share

You earn 30% of each Plus payment, without tax, for 12 months from the person’s first Plus payment. Each share waits 30 days. A payment that is refunded or charged back in that time earns nothing, and a part refund makes the share smaller. On the first days of each month, when at least US$18 is ready, Barside sends your ready shares to your Stripe account. Each share is sent in the currency that Stripe settled the payment in, and Stripe converts it to your account’s currency when needed. If a payment is refunded or charged back after its share was sent, Barside takes that share back from your Stripe account.

Taxes

You are responsible for reporting and paying any tax on what you earn.

Changes and ending

We tell creators at least 30 days before a change to the share, the 12 months or the program applies. Shares already earned are paid under the rules they were earned under. Shares that come from fake accounts, payments that are not genuine, or a creator’s own account or card are cancelled. If the program ends, ready shares are still paid.
