A job search has many moving parts. Seeing every application in one place helps you follow up on time and notice what is working.
Who it is for
It is for anyone looking for work: graduates, people changing careers, and professionals looking for their next role. It is also useful for internships, grants and school applications. Track your bigger career goals in the goal tracker.
What is in the job application tracker template
- A board: To apply, Applied, Interview, Offer and Rejected.
- All applications: a table with Company, Role, Stage, Applied, Salary and Link.
- Applications by stage: a chart drawn from the table.
- Interview prep and Follow-ups: stories, questions and the next emails to send.
An example
Leo applies to a product design role at Northwind on Monday and adds a card under Applied and a row with the link and salary range. Two weeks later they invite him to an interview, so he drags the card to Interview and changes the stage in the table. He writes three stories under interview prep and a follow-up email to send the day after the interview.
How to use the job application tracker template
- Choose Open in Barside above. Barside opens and asks before it adds anything.
- Pick the workspace for the note, and leave Keep it in my templates ticked to use the template again.
- Choose Create note. A new note called "Job search · 2026" opens, ready to fill in.
- Next time, start one from New note from a template, or let Barside make it on a schedule as a repeating note.
No Barside yet? It is free for Windows, Linux and Mac: download Barside, then choose Open in Barside again.
How to run a calm job search
- Follow up a week after applying, politely and once.
- Keep three to five stories ready for interviews, each with a result.
- Save each job ad: postings disappear. Barside can save web pages with their layout.
- Track rejections too. The numbers show where to change your approach.
Make it yours
- Add a Contact column for the recruiter or referrer.
- Add a Next step date and sort by it.
- Keep each company's research in its own linked note.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Should I keep rejected applications?
Yes. Moving them to Rejected keeps your history, shows your real numbers and reminds you which companies to try again later.
Is the job application tracker template free?
Yes. The template and Barside are both free. Barside Plus is optional and adds cloud backup and sync between computers; templates do not need it.
Does the template work offline?
Adding it needs the internet once, so Barside can fetch it from barside.space. After that, the template and every note made from it live on your computer and work offline.
Can I use it on a Mac?
Yes: Barside for Mac is out. Barside also runs on Windows and Linux. The template page works in any browser, so you can preview it anywhere.
