A week is the right size for planning: long enough to finish something real, short enough to see clearly. This template puts the week on a board, so you can move work between days as plans change.
Who it is for
It is for people who want one place to see the whole week: team leads planning around meetings, students juggling classes, and anyone who likes to move work around instead of rewriting lists.
What is in the weekly planner template
- Three goals: a checklist for what would make this week a good one.
- The week: a kanban board with Monday to Friday, the weekend and a Done column. Drag a card to another day when plans change.
- Habits: a table with a checkbox for each day and a total for each day.
- Review on Friday: wins, lessons and what comes next week.
An example
On Sunday evening, Ben opens the weekly plan. His three goals are to ship a report, run three times and call his parents. He adds a card per task to the day columns, putting the report on Tuesday and Wednesday, when he has no meetings. On Wednesday the report needs another day, so he drags its card to Thursday. On Friday he writes two wins, one lesson and the first task for next week.
How to use the weekly planner template
- Choose Open in Barside above. Barside opens and asks before it adds anything.
- Pick the workspace for the note, and leave Keep it in my templates ticked to use the template again.
- Choose Create note. A new note called "Week 41 plan" opens, ready to fill in.
- Next time, start one from New note from a template, or let Barside make it on a schedule as a repeating note.
No Barside yet? It is free for Windows, Linux and Mac: download Barside, then choose Open in Barside again.
How to plan a week
- Plan on Friday afternoon or Sunday evening, with your calendar open next to the note.
- Put meetings in first, then the big tasks in the gaps around them.
- Give each day one main card, and keep the rest small.
- Do the Friday review even when the week went badly. That is when it helps most.
Make it yours
- Rename the columns to fit how you work, such as Deep work, Calls and Admin.
- Make it a repeating note every Monday at 8:00.
- Link last week's note with [[ to keep a chain of weeks.
FAQ
Questions and answers
How do I move a task to another day?
Drag its card from one column to another on the board. Cards keep their text, and the columns show how many cards each day holds.
What is a weekly review?
A short look back at the week and ahead at the next. It keeps goals from drifting. Read how to do it in our weekly review guide.
Is the weekly planner template free?
Yes. The template and Barside are both free. Barside Plus is optional and adds cloud backup and sync between computers; templates do not need it.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Barside runs on your computer without an account, and the notes you make from the template stay in your library on your computer.
