Free bug tracker template with severity and status
Track bugs in one table: severity, status, owner, the date reported and a link, sorted with the worst first. A chart shows the mix, and a checklist says what makes a good report.

Free. Barside asks before it adds the template, then makes a new note from it. Needs Barside 1.50 or newer.

Small teams do not need a heavy issue tracker to stay on top of bugs. A sorted table with clear severity levels and a good report checklist covers most of it.
Who it is for
It is for small product teams, solo developers, agencies and testers who need a clear list of bugs without a heavy issue tracker. Bugs that turn into larger work can move to the project tracker.
What is in the bug tracker template
- Bugs: a table with Severity (critical, high, medium, low), Status, Owner, Reported and Link, sorted by severity.
- Open bugs by severity: a donut chart drawn from the table.
- A good bug report: a checklist of what to include.
An example
A tester finds that exporting stops at 1,000 rows. She adds the bug as Critical, with a link to a screen recording, and assigns it to Ana. The table, sorted by severity, puts it at the top. When Ana fixes it, she sets the status to Fixed, and the donut chart of open bugs shrinks. A typo on the pricing page stays Low until someone has five minutes.
How to use the bug tracker template
- Choose Open in Barside above. Barside opens and asks before it adds anything.
- Pick the workspace for the note, and leave Keep it in my templates ticked to use the template again.
- Choose Create note. A new note called "Bugs" opens, ready to fill in.
- Next time, start one from New note from a template, or let Barside make it on a schedule as a repeating note.
No Barside yet? It is free for Windows, Linux and Mac: download Barside, then choose Open in Barside again.
How to triage bugs
- Agree on what each severity means: critical stops work, low is cosmetic.
- Fix critical bugs before anything new.
- Add a filter to hide Fixed and Will not fix rows.
- Record a short screen video of the bug. It saves a lot of back-and-forth.
Make it yours
- Record the bug with Barside's screen recorder right into the note.
- Add a Version column for the release where it was found.
- Share the note in a Barside Space with your team.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Can I attach a screenshot to a bug?
Yes. Paste a picture into the note, or record the screen into it. Keep the bug's row in the table and the details below it, or in its own linked note.
Is the bug tracker template free?
Yes. The template and Barside are both free. Barside Plus is optional and adds cloud backup and sync between computers; templates do not need it.
Does the template work offline?
Adding it needs the internet once, so Barside can fetch it from barside.space. After that, the template and every note made from it live on your computer and work offline.
Can I use it on a Mac?
Yes: Barside for Mac is out. Barside also runs on Windows and Linux. The template page works in any browser, so you can preview it anywhere.
