Free online screen recorder with no watermark and no sign-up
Record your screen right in the browser: choose a screen, a window or a tab, add your microphone and a floating camera bubble, then download the video. No sign-up, no watermark, no time limit, and the video never leaves your computer.
The tool starts when the page has loaded. It needs JavaScript.
Recording your screen should not need an install, an account or a watermark. This online screen recorder runs in your browser: pick what to record, add your voice and your face if you like, and download the video when you stop. Nothing is uploaded, ever.
How to record your screen online
- Under Record, choose what to include: My microphone, Sound from the screen or tab, and a 3-second count down.
- Optional: press Show my camera in a bubble to open your camera in a small floating window.
- Press Start recording. The browser asks what to share: an entire screen, a window or a tab. To include sound, tick the browser's share audio option if it shows one.
- Work as usual. The page shows a timer, Pause and Stop. You can also stop with the browser's Stop sharing button.
- When you stop, the video plays on the page with its length and size. Press Download to save it, or Record again.
Screen, window or tab: which to choose
| Choice | Best for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Entire screen | Tutorials across several apps, the camera bubble | Everything on that screen is visible, including notifications |
| Window | One app, without the rest of your desktop | Menus and pop-ups from other apps are left out |
| Tab | A website or web app demo | Chrome and Edge can include the tab's sound |
Turn off notifications before recording an entire screen, so a private message does not end up in the video.
Add your face with a camera bubble
The camera bubble is your webcam in a small floating window, the picture-in-picture window your browser uses for videos. It stays on top of other apps, so when you record your entire screen, your face is in the video. Drag it to a corner, resize it, and press the button again to close it. It works in Chrome, Edge and Safari; Firefox does not let websites open this window.
Check your picture and light first with the camera test.
Sound: your voice and the computer
- Your microphone is recorded when My microphone is ticked. The browser cleans it with echo cancellation and noise suppression.
- The computer's sound depends on the browser and the system. Chrome and Edge can record a tab's sound, and on Windows the whole computer's sound when you share an entire screen. Other browsers record the picture without it.
- Both together are mixed into one sound track.
Why the recording stays private
Many online recorders upload your video to their servers while you record, so they can give you a link. This one does not: the browser records into the page's memory, and the only copy is the file you download. That means no account, no storage limit and nobody else's servers holding your screen. It also means there is no link to share until you put the file somewhere yourself.
The browser recorder and Barside
This page is the quick way: a recording in a minute, in any browser on a computer. For recordings you make every week, Barside's desktop screen recorder does more, for free:
- It saves each recording into a note, next to the steps, links and checklist it belongs to.
- It records part of the screen, a window or a whole screen, and your computer's sound on Windows and Linux.
- Its webcam bubble can blur or replace your background, and you can drag it anywhere on the screen.
- It trims a recording, makes short clips from it, and shares it with a link, free for files up to 50 MB that play for 7 days.
Barside runs on Windows, Linux and Mac. See how it compares with Loom in our Loom alternative guide, and with other apps in the best screen recorders.
Tips for a clear screen recording
- Close what you do not want seen: other tabs, chats and email.
- Make text bigger. Zoom the browser or the app to 125% so viewers can read it.
- Plan three points, say them, stop. Short videos get watched.
- Record your voice on a headset for clearer sound; test it with the mic test.
- Need only audio? Use the online voice recorder.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Is this screen recorder really free, with no watermark?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no time limit. The video is made by your browser and saved only when you press Download.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The browser records the screen into the page's memory, and Download saves the file to your computer. This page has no analytics and the recorder sends nothing. Close the page without downloading and the video is gone.
Can I record my computer's sound?
It depends on the browser. Chrome and Edge can include a tab's sound, and on Windows the sound of the whole computer when you share an entire screen; tick the share audio box in the browser's picker. Other browsers record the picture, plus your microphone if you turn it on.
How do I show my face while recording?
Press Show my camera in a bubble before you start. Your camera opens in a small floating window that stays on top of other apps; record your entire screen and the bubble is in the video. It works in Chrome, Edge and Safari.
What format is the video?
MP4 where your browser can make it, and WebM otherwise; the file name ends in .mp4 or .webm so you know which. Both play in modern browsers and in VLC, and most video editors open them.
Can I record on my phone?
No. Phone and tablet browsers do not let websites capture the screen. Use the phone's own screen recording instead.
Why does my WebM file not show its length in some players?
Browsers write WebM files while recording, so some players cannot read the total length or skip ahead until the file is processed. Opening it in a browser or VLC works; re-saving it with a tool such as ffmpeg adds the length.
