Free. Barside asks before it adds the template, then makes a new note from it. Needs Barside 1.50 or newer.

Assignments come from many courses at once. One table sorted by due date shows what comes next across all of them.

Who it is for

It is for students with several courses at once, from high school to graduate school, and for parents helping a child keep track. Put the study time itself in the study planner.

What is in the assignment tracker template

  • Assignments: a table with Course, Due, Status (not started, in progress, submitted, graded) and Grade, sorted by due date.
  • Assignments by status: a donut chart drawn from the table.
  • This week: a checklist of the next steps.

An example

At the start of the term, Ines adds every assignment from her three course outlines, with due dates. The table, sorted by Due, shows the essay draft first. She sets it to In progress and adds a reminder three days before the deadline. When a quiz is graded, she marks it Graded and enters 88%, and the chart shows how much of the term is already done.

How to use the assignment tracker template

  1. Choose Open in Barside above. Barside opens and asks before it adds anything.
  2. Pick the workspace for the note, and leave Keep it in my templates ticked to use the template again.
  3. Choose Create note. A new note called "Assignments" opens, ready to fill in.
  4. Next time, start one from New note from a template, or let Barside make it on a schedule as a repeating note.

No Barside yet? It is free for Windows, Linux and Mac: download Barside, install it, then choose Open in Barside again.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Can I see my grades average?

Yes. Add a total under Grade and choose Average. Barside tables can count, sum, average and find the minimum or maximum of a number column.

Is the assignment tracker template free?

Yes. The template and Barside are both free. Barside Plus is optional and adds cloud backup and sync between computers; templates do not need it.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. Barside runs on your computer without an account, and the notes you make from the template stay in your library on your computer.

Can I change the assignment tracker template?

Yes. Edit the note it makes like any other note: rename columns, add rows, delete sections. To keep your version, open the note and choose Save as template in its options.
