Evernote keyboard shortcuts for Windows and Mac
In Evernote, Ctrl+N (Cmd+N on a Mac) makes a note, Ctrl+K searches, and Ctrl+/ or Cmd+/ shows every shortcut. A few work system-wide while Evernote runs, such as Alt+Ctrl+N for a new note window. Some can be changed or turned off in the shortcut drawer.
These are the Evernote keyboard shortcuts for Windows and Mac, from Evernote's help article, which shows "Updated July 31, 2026" and was checked on October 2, 2026. The article covers Windows and Mac only.
Evernote's shortcut drawer, opened with Ctrl+/ on Windows or Cmd+/ on a Mac, lists them in the app too. From there, some shortcuts can be changed or turned off: search for the combination, click it, and choose Edit or Disable. Restore default brings it back.
At the end, a table shows the same jobs in Barside, a free local-first notes app for Windows and Linux.

Tips
- Same keys, different blocks.
Ctrl+Shift+Bmakes a bulleted list in Evernote but a quote in Barside. If you use both, check the block before you keep typing. - Watch
Ctrl+Shift+Space. Evernote uses it to remove formatting, and Barside's default hotkey to show or hide Barside uses it from any app. Give one of them another combination in Settings → Hotkeys and aliases if they clash. - Use the drawer.
Ctrl+/(orCmd+/) is the fastest way to find a shortcut you forgot, and to turn off one that gets in your way.

Thinking about switching? The Evernote alternative guide compares the two, and export Evernote notes shows the move step by step. Barside's importer reads Evernote .enex files with a preview first. For another notes app, see the OneNote keyboard shortcuts.

Questions and answers
How do I see all keyboard shortcuts in Evernote?
Press Ctrl+/ on Windows or Cmd+/ on a Mac to open the shortcut drawer, or choose Help, then Keyboard shortcuts, from the window menu.

Some of them. Evernote's help says some shortcuts can be turned off or customized: open the shortcut drawer, search for the combination, click it and choose Edit or Disable. Restore default brings the original back.
Which Evernote shortcuts work outside Evernote?
While Evernote is running, these work in any app: a new note window (Alt+Ctrl+N on Windows), Paste to Evernote (Alt+Ctrl+V), search (Shift+Ctrl+K or Win+Shift+F), Evernote Helper (Ctrl+Alt+H) and capture screen (Ctrl+Alt+S).
What is the Evernote shortcut for a checklist?
Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows and Shift+Cmd+C on a Mac turns the line into a checklist. Ctrl+Shift+B (Shift+Cmd+U on a Mac) makes a bulleted list, and Ctrl+Shift+O (Shift+Cmd+O) a numbered list.
Do Evernote's shortcuts work in Barside?
The basic ones do: Ctrl+N, Ctrl+K, Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+V. Lists and checklists use other keys in Barside (Ctrl+Shift+8, 7 and 9). See Barside keyboard shortcuts for the full list.
