1Password keyboard shortcuts for Windows, Mac and Linux

In 1Password 8 on Windows and Linux, Ctrl+Shift+Space opens Quick Access, Ctrl+\ fills in your browser and Ctrl+Shift+L locks 1Password. In the app, Ctrl+Shift+C copies a password. On a Mac, Quick Access is Option+Cmd+\, or Shift+Cmd+Space on macOS 26 or earlier.

These are the 1Password keyboard shortcuts for the 1Password 8 desktop app, Quick Access and the browser extension, from 1Password's support page (published September 3, 2026, checked October 2, 2026). The page has separate tabs for Mac, Windows and Linux. Linux uses the same Ctrl keys as Windows inside the app, but sets its global shortcuts differently on Wayland, as explained below.

You can change the global shortcuts: open and unlock 1Password, select your account or collection at the top of the sidebar, then choose Settings > General. Inside the app, Ctrl+Shift+/ (Windows and Linux) or Cmd+/ (Mac) shows every shortcut.

At the end, you will find the same jobs in Barside, a free desktop app with a built-in password manager.

Global 1Password keyboard shortcuts

These work outside the app. As of October 2026:

Lock 1PasswordCtrl+Shift+LShift+Cmd+LCtrl+Shift+L

On Linux with Wayland, you create global shortcuts in your desktop's own settings (GNOME, KDE Plasma or Sway) with the commands 1password --show, 1password --quick-access and 1password --lock. 1Password's examples use Ctrl+P, Ctrl+Shift+Space and Ctrl+Shift+L.

To reveal all fields while you hold a key, first turn on Hold Ctrl+Alt to toggle revealed fields (Windows and Linux) or Hold Option to toggle revealed fields (Mac) in Settings > Security. On the Linux tab, the zoom out row shows a key that looks like a typo, so we left it out. On Linux, Alt shows or hides the app menu in the title bar; on a Mac, Cmd+M minimizes to the Dock and Cmd+W closes the window.

The same jobs in Barside

Barside's built-in password manager works with buttons rather than keys. It fills logins in Chrome, Brave and Edge on Windows, and copies them for you to paste on Linux. There is no master password: your system encrypts the logins for your user account. Every Barside key below is on the Barside keyboard shortcuts sheet.

In Barside for Mac, Passwords copies your username and password, as on Linux.

Tips

  • Two apps, one hotkey. 1Password's Quick Access and Barside's show or hide hotkey both default to Ctrl+Shift+Space. Only one app can hold a global hotkey. If Barside cannot get it, Settings → Hotkeys and aliases says it "is used by another app", and you can pick another combination there.
  • Copied passwords and clipboard history. A password that Barside copies is marked private, so Barside's own clipboard history skips it.
  • Learn the lock key. Ctrl+Shift+L (or Shift+Cmd+L) locks 1Password from anywhere, which is handy when you step away.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What is the 1Password Quick Access shortcut?

Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows and Linux. On a Mac it is Option+Cmd+\, and 1Password's page says that on macOS 26 or earlier it is Shift+Cmd+Space instead.

How do I change 1Password's global shortcuts?

Open and unlock 1Password, select your account or collection at the top of the sidebar, then choose Settings > General. On Linux with Wayland, you add them in your desktop's own keyboard settings instead, with commands such as 1password --quick-access.

Is there a shortcut to show 1Password?

Not by default. 1Password's page lists Show 1Password as a global shortcut on every computer, but tells you to enter your own in Settings > General.

How do I see every shortcut in the 1Password app?

Press Ctrl+Shift+/ on Windows and Linux, or Cmd+/ on a Mac, to view the keyboard shortcuts inside the app.

Does Barside's password manager have keyboard shortcuts?

Barside Passwords works with buttons: Fill on Windows, and Copy username and Copy password on Linux. You can open it from any app by giving the Passwords command a hotkey in Settings → Hotkeys and aliases, or by typing pw in the search bar. See Barside keyboard shortcuts.
